Templar is the middle ground between the two, and serves a means for buffing your team, while also doing AoE damage to enemies (more specifically demons). From what I've heard from other players, it depends on what role you want to play within your party. 2H with either of these specializations is fine really.

Tempest: There's two ways to play a tempest to full effect. You can either stack flanking damage through the roof, and take advantage of Shadow Strike + Fire Flasks for insane damage, or you can play them as a poor man's artificer and use Fire FLask + Leaping Shot/Long Shot for massive volleys of damage.
